This, located in La Aguilera and round Aranda de Duero (Burgos), caught the attention of Juan Luis Cañas thanks to the area survives an old vineyard, with low yields and quality for making great wines. Besides its vineyards between 850 and 950 meters they bring to their grapes and consequently its wines a freshness and fruitiness that distinguish and have brought fame to the wines of the Familia Luis Cañas.
Tierras de Cair Ribera del Duero Reserva 2009 has been produced with 100% Tempranillo grapes from vines more than 70 years high areas and poor soils. The grapes have been harvested in small boxes; once they enter the winery go through double selection table. Alcoholic fermentation has made in oak vat and malolactic fermentation in new barrels. Later it has been 24 months in new French oak barrels and a minimum of 18 months in bottle.

A wine made from vines more than 50 years of Tempranillo (95%) and Graciano (5%) varieties harvested in small boxes, and whose clusters and grains were selected double table and aged for 24 months in new barrels. A wine that seeks to recover the essence of Gran Reserva, a great wine made in the best vintages and whose elegance and subtlety make it a really huge wine.
Bodegas Amaren are expanding their list with a new wine which will become the benchmark for oak-aged wines. A new style of crianza wine made with the masterful skill which is the hallmark of the brand.
Bodegas Amaren, created by Juan Luis Cañas (Bodegas Luis Cañas) as a tribute to his mother, are known for their modern-style wines and in the case of this new one, they anticipate what they believe the taste of the market will be in the near future.
If there is one thing which defines this winemaking family it is their passion for the vineyard, for the selection of the grapes to the ultimate degree in order to get from their perfect grapes the wines which will triumph in the most demanding markets.
Made from 85% tempranillo and 15% garnacha from vines with an average age of 35 years, the grapes are selected on a dual sorting table, first a manual check of the clusters and then the individual berries. After vinification the wine is cask aged for 12 months in 50% new, American-oak barrels and 50% in French-oak barrels used for a second vintage.
The resulting wine is truly attractive, transmitting the finesse and elegance of the tempranillo and the fresh, delicate fruitiness of the garnacha. A balanced combination which is far from an excessive complexity, corpulence or over extraction to achieve the goal set by the bodega: to make a “RICH” wine in capital letters. With a nose in which the fruit character with floral nuances and strawberry toffees will stay with you all through its passage through the mouth, where you can sense its power, but with an elegance, enchanting you with its great balance until the long finish with heady notes of red fruit typical of the best garnachas from the Rioja Alavesa.
A wine to be enjoyed and which will charm you with its subtlety.

Amaren has lots of loyal fans who show their loyalty by being aware that because of their limited production, they cannot be found in large quantities in the shops and restaurants. Just as exclusive are the customers who are looking to find in them the kind of elegant, subtle wine with lots of soul for them to truly enjoy.
USERS OF VEREMA GAVE THE WINERY THEIR VOTE
A poll of users of Verema voted Bodegas Luis Cañas the distinction of being the Wine Cellar with the Best Track Record in the prizes they award each year to the most outstanding wines, wineries and personalities.
A prize which recognizes the spectacular evolution the wine cellar has undergone in recent years, since it has been the family’s way of life for generations, growing from a winery producing young red cosechero wines to one of the benchmarks in Spain, thanks to its great aged wines.
Today, present in over 45 countries, it has won major awards, unbeatable reviews from the most respected specialist press, and has broadened its horizons with a new cellar in the Rioja Alavesa (Bodegas Amaren) which Juan Luis Cañas set up as a homage to his mother. At the present time, moreover, the group is expanding with a cellar in Ribera del Duero (Dominio de Cair). This all springs from the passion, hard work and a philosophy based on maximum quality and, as Juan Luis Cañas stresses, “The most important things is not the financial profit but rather for us to feel proud of our work, to know that we can still improve and to give our customers unforgettable moments of joy, and of course, to see how emotional my father feels when he sees the results of all the hard work he put into the business together with my mother”
The Cañas family is even more proud to receive this award knowing that it was decided by discerning wine lovers.
The prize was presented to José Miguel Zubia, Sales Manager of Familia Luis Cañas by Juan Such, co-founder and director of Verema.
“Everybody must know the magic of the culture of wine, its gastronomy and the leisure activities surrounding it”
With this in mind, last March saw the presentation of “The Visit” of Aranda in Dominio de Cair.
This novel wine tourism project sprang from an initiative of 7 successful Arana de Duero-based businesses: Bodega Dominio de Cair , Casa Florencio, , Hotel Villa de Aranda, , La Traviesa, Galería de Arte Rodrigo Juarranz, Bodega López Cristóbal and Bodega Histórica Don Carlos. They brought together all their combined prestige and joined forces to present a single marketing package with a quality label and look for synergies in order to take on the challenge of selling the Ribera de Duero quality label through wine tourism packages. A video shows off the culture, gastronomy and wine and leisure attractions that the project’s partners offer visitors.
THE LOIDI RESTAURANT WAS AGAIN THE PERFECT STAGE FOR A GREAT OCCASION
On the last Wednesday in May an event took place in the Loidi Restaurant in Barcelona which was a true example of solidarity. The “Tapas y Bodegas” event, which the restaurant organized with great success and thanks to the customary mastery of the host, Basque chef Martín Berasategui, served to support the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Bodegas Dominio de Cair could not miss the opportunity to be part of such a noble gesture, which with the cocktail-dinner format, also launched a new terrace tapas menu for the Loidi restaurant. Moreover, Martín, the Spanish chef with the most Michelin stars to his name, made everyone feel completely at home, greeting and serving those present with his typical natural, friendly charm.
This time it was Bodegas Dominio de Cair who represented the Luis Cañas Family, although wines from the three cellars have a strong presence on the Barcelona restaurant’s wine list.
Oscar Fernández, Mein Host and Sommelier, led his team masterfully to ensure everyone enjoyed great cuisine, some fantastic wines and, last but not least, some marvelous company.
